Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Lords of the West

Lords of the West is an expansion to the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition; we are talking about a completely refreshed version of the cult RTS entitled Age of Empires II: The Age of the Kings, released in November 2019. The addition is the result of collaboration between Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media and Wicked Witch.

Plot

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Lords of the West takes us to Western Europe and the Mediterranean. Three large campaigns were designed for the add-on. In the first one, we take control of the Britons and follow the fate of Edward I Longshanks, who, in order to ensure the glory of a ruined England, conquers Wales and Scotland and takes part in a crusade. The second campaign focuses on the Burgundians (one of the two new civilisations that the developers give us in this expansion) and their efforts to build their own kingdom in the north of France. The third campaign, on the other hand, lets us take control of the second new civilisation - the Sicilians - and watch the power of the de Hauteville Norman family being born.

Mechanics

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Lords of the West does not introduce any changes to the game mechanics. However, both new civilisations, the Burgundians and the Sicilians, bring in previously unavailable technologies and unique units. The first have in their ranks the Coustillier - a cavalry unit capable of taking a powerful charge on the enemies - while among the second is Serjeant, an infantry soldier capable of raising the keeps (towers both for defence and for residential purposes).

Lords of the West is not a stand-alone add-on, so it requires a basic version of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition to work.
