Afterimage

Afterimage is an action platformer metroidvania. It was developed by an independent studio Aurogon.

Plot

Afterimage is set in a fantasy land of Engardin. We play as an adventurer on a journey to learn its secrets and deal with its problems.

Mechanics

Afterimage is a side-scroller. The game features a vast world divided into numerous smaller levels. The player traverses the locations, learns their secrets and meets their inhabitants. While exploring we must be agile, jump across platforms, avoid traps and obstacles.

Combat also plays an important role. Each stage is home to different enemies, with use of separate mechanics being key to succeeding. Just like in soulslike games, each enemy has their own individual moveset the player must learn to discover their weaknesses and gaps in their defenses. In addition to regular enemies we'll also face much more powerful bosses.

The player can wield various different weapons, finding new ones and upgrading already owned ones. We'll also make use of numerous combat skills, the roster of which expands as we progress through the game.

Technical aspects

The 2D visuals of Afterimage are of very high quality. The hand-drawn locations are richly detailed, while the characters and monsters are very well animated. The game's soundtrack creates an adventurous atmosphere.
