AFL Live 2004
AFL Live 2004 is the second installment of the series of sports games, which are simulations of Australian football games.
developer: IR Gurus / Transmission Games publisher: Acclaim Entertainment
One year after the release of AFL Live 2003, Acclaim decided to release the second installment of the series. The production was again entrusted to the IR Gurus Interactive studio. The Australian developers have made every effort to ensure that the changes aren't only about updating the database of teams and players. AFL Live 2004 was released on PC, PS2 and XBOX.
Mechanics
The gameplay in AFL Live 2004 faithfully reproduces the official rules of the game, largely resembling a combination of rugby and American football. The matches in AFL Live 2004 take place in 6 carefully reproduced authentic arenas, with dynamic weather conditions and time of day. Teams of 22 players (18 in the field and 4 on the reserve bench) compete on oval fields and the virtual referees watch over the correctness of the game.
Game modes
As in the original, in AFL Live 2004, the player directs the actions of their favorite Australian football team. This time, however, the fun is not limited to a single AFL season. The developers gave us the opportunity to take part in the prestigious Wizard Cup tournament, and also tried to present fragments of the history of Australian football.
Technical aspects
From the technical side, AFL Live 2004 is based on a modified version of the engine used in the previous entry. The introduced changes allowed for a more detailed presentation of the players, including the stars of this sport - Nick Daffy and Paul Williams. Character animations were made with the use of motion-capture technology.
