Aeon Must Die! Description
Aeon Must Die! is an action game that combines walking combat mechanics with RPG elements. This is the debut game of the Limestone Games studio.
Plot
The game tells the story of a man who is infected by a symbiotic creature named Aeon. In the previous body, the creature was the Emperor of the Galaxy, but was betrayed by his comrades and thrown off the throne. Now the creature returns to take revenge.
But a man does not intend to give up his body without a fight. That's why there's a war between him and Aeon for control.
Mechanics
Aeon Must Die! refers to the tradition of beat'em ups The game focuses on fighting hordes of enemies using a highly arcade system. A player can perform a number of attacks, which are divided into two categories. Simple attacks cause the hero's body temperature to rise, and special techniques cool them down. Overheating allows you to use special skills without waiting for them to renew. However, when the hero's temperature drops too low, he falls into lethargy and his combat skills fall heavily.
Special techniques are much more useful than simple attacks, so the player has to keep calculating what is best for him at all times. The game also remembers our fighting style and the decisions made in the campaign and on this basis shapes the course of history. The more immoral we behave, the stronger Aeon becomes and the human part of the hero weakens. Enemies also learn our tactics and in order to be successful we must regularly change the way we fight.
The gameplay is made more attractive by the character development system, allowing to unlock new abilities. Moreover, when we die, the game allows us to start the fun from the beginning, with all the progress and improvements. Alternatively, we may be resurrected in the place where we died, but this strengthens Aeon at the expense of its human host.
Technical aspects
The game boasts a very attractive graphic style. The visual setting is colourful and stylized for a dark cartoon. The authors' goal was to recreate the climate of brutal Japanese animated films from the VHS era and they managed to accomplish this task.
