Adam's Venture: Origins Description
Adam’s Venture: Origins for PC, PS4 and XONE is a new version of Adam’s Venture that came out in three episodes between years 2009 and 2012 exclusively for PC. In 2013, the complete edition was released for PlayStation 3 as Adam’s Venture Chronicles. Two years later, the game was rereleased for PC in digital distribution. This is therefore the third approach to the same title, developed by Vertigo Games, an independent Dutch studio that created the original, and financially supported by a completely new publisher – SOEDESCO Publishing.
Plot
The plot of Adam’s Venture: Origins is set in the 20th century. In the game, we assume the role of the title traveler and treasure hunter, who, while exploring an old French church of the Templars, found journals of a knight who fought alongside king Richard the Lionheart in the Third Crusade. These notes hide a great mystery – a supposed location of the biblical garden of Eden. With his trusted friend, Evelyn, the protagonist embarks on a dangerous yet exciting journey financed by a powerful corporation called Clairvaux. Searching for mysterious artifacts, the pair of heroes visit ancient ruins scattered around the entire world, trying to outwit the members of the corporation that follow their trail. Clairvaux reasons boil down to making easy money and not caring about science.
Mechanics
The will to retell the story of the protagonist’s first adventures premised the creation of the game. Initially, it was impossible to realize for technical and financial reasons. Adam’s Venture: Origins brings a quite considerable amount of novelties and changes. Starting with an expanded plot, enriched with new themes, through modern graphics that comply with contemporary standards, to number of enhancements in the gameplay mechanics.
The gameplay conception was not significantly changed, therefore the game is still a rather classical adventure game based on exploration, collecting items, and solving puzzles. However, contrary to most contemporary adventure games that are full of dynamic action sequences, Adam’s Venture: Origins puts a great emphasis on logic elements – the players have to tackle around 60 varied challenges in which, apart from agility, one must also exercise their brains. Of course, the game does offer arcade sequences as well, but they come in absolutely minimal quantity.
Technical aspects
Thanks to a bigger budget and technological progress of personal computers and consoles, the visual layer of Adam’s Venture: Origins for PC, PS4 and XONE presents somewhat prettier than that of the 2009’s first episode and the 2013’s PlayStation 3 conversion. Therefore, we get to enjoy enhanced graphics and animation that meet the latest standards.
