A crazy 2D shooter focused on multiplayer. A Fistful of Gun is an expanded version of a 2012’s free application developed by FarmerGnome and published by Devolver Digital. The action takes place in the Wild West, where a greedy industrialist wants to build a railway line to hell itself. Undead gunslingers, who are controlled by the players, intend to thwart this plan.

A Fistful of Gun is a multiplayer-focused, chaotic 2D shooter set in the Wild West. The game was developed by the independent FarmerGnome and released for PC by an experienced publisher, Devolver Digital (Serious Sam 3, the Hotline Miami series). The production is a commercial and significantly expanded version of the free application that was initially made available back in 2012.

Plot

The game tells a story that combines elements of a western and horror. In time when the Wild West is slowly braided with railways, the evil and corrupt baron Clayton Boon decides to build a railway straight to hell. Trying to stop this mad idea, one of the local shamans summons a quite grim group of undead psychopathic gunslingers. They embark on a pursuit after Boon, fighting their way through hordes of bandits and dangerous animals. Their only goal is to catch the tycoon and thus pay their debt to the living.

Mechanics

There are eleven unique gunslingers at our disposal, each of whom has his own shameful biography, different skills and attacks, and—what’s interesting—a even own controls model. For example, some characters are better controlled with a gamepad, while others are created to be controlled with a mouse. The gameplay boils down do traversing subsequent locations and eliminating incoming waves of enemies. We can collect gold from the bodies of fallen foes which is then used to buy various enhancements. The title is incredibly fast-paced and doesn’t give players lots of time to strategically plan their moves.

Game modes

A Fistful of Gun can be played solo in the single player or classical arcade mode. However, the game becomes truly fun in multiplayer for up to 9 players. In this variant, we can either cooperate or compete. In the latter, every gunslinger works on his own.

Technical aspects

A Fistful of Gun for PC is very old-school and features strongly pixelated, flat 2D graphics, and a top-down view. These give the gameplay a unique charm, making it really crazy and chaotic in the most intense moments (when there are lots of characters and spectacular explosions on the screen).
