8bitMMO, available on PC, is an unusual MMO created by an indie studio called Archive Entertainment, under the direction of Robby Zinchak. The process of development took more than 12 years and the developer's ambition was to offer players a game in which they could freely shape its virtual world.
As in other MMO games, 8bitMMO starts with creating our character. After that only we can decide what we want to do in this virtual world. The game allows us to build our own cities, castles or undergrounds but also to create simple missions that we can later complete alone or with friends. There is also an option for PvP or PvE figts (we can face, e.g. Congressional Lobbyist Slugs, LawyerCats, Hipsters). In addition to all that we can also become a zombie and spread the epidemic throughout the entire world.
The game was developed with multiplayer mode in mind and one server can host up to 250 players.
The graphics in 8bitMMO, available on PC, are similar to games from the 8-bit era. The 2D graphics have a limited number of colors and everything is displayed with a visible pixelization effect. The game's modest soundtrack uses music made in midi format.
The map in 8bitMMO (called MegoMap) is based Google Maps technology, which allows to e.g. zooming in and out. The developers also paid attention to such details as an anti-beggars system.
