30XX is an action platformer with roguelike elements. It was co-created by Batterystaple Games and Kowloon Nights, being a sequel to the warmly received 20XX.

Plot

30XX is set a thousand years after the first installment. The returning protagonists, Nina and Ace, wake up from a coma, their world having changed into a prison while they were asleep. Once again, they must fight and overthrow the villainous Guardians.

Mechanics

30XX is a side-scroller. The game consists of eight procedurally generated worlds, traversed by jumping on platforms, avoiding traps and facing hordes of enemies. Nina specializes in firearms and can use Power Fusion to fuse abilities drained from beaten bosses, while Ace specializes in melee combat, chaining his strikes into deadly combos.

Just like its predecessor, which was heavily inspired by Mega Man, the game is difficult. All bosses are challenging, but even regular enemies can quickly end us if we're not careful. Death is permanent, each failure bringing us back to the beginning. Even so, we won't completely lose our progress, as we retain Memoria - a currency used to purchase new abilities, preview awaited challenges or affect how the next stage will look like. Those who desire more challenge can meet certain criteria and activate Entropy Conditions, which make the game much more difficult while granting valuable rewards.

Game modes

30XX supports singleplayer, as well as online and local co-op.

Technical aspects

30XX features appealing, colorful, pixel art visuals. The game's artistic director is Glauber Kotaki, also known for Rogue Legacy, Duelyst and Chasm.
