A 2D platformer similar to games from the Mega Men series. The title stands out from the crowd by implementing permadeath and procedurally-generated levels.

20XX for PC and PS4 is a 2D platformer which looks similar to Mega Man titles. This is a debut-project for the small Batterystaple Games studio.

Mechanics

The production strives for the spirit of classic platformers. The developers tried to recreate the atmosphere and fun of the games from the past. Therefore, gameplay of 20XX is not very complicated, but still poses a considerable challenge. You are in control of nimble characters that can shoot with their mechanic hands. Gameplay consists in going through complicated levels which require skills to avoid obstacles, jump on platforms, and fight numerous enemies.

The implemented roguelike elements make 20XX stand out from the crowd. First of all, the game features permadeath. Only two elements remain: Soul Chips that can be spent on upgrades, and upgrades themselves (with them, you can progress further). Procedurally-generated levels are the next roguelike feature. Each time you begin the journey, you can expect enemies and traps to be in different places, so it is not possible plan your way – all you can do is learn about skills of regular opponents and bosses.
