Fallout Description
Fallout is a post-apocalyptic RPG which, although created as a spiritual successor to Wasteland published 10 years earlier, paved the way for a completely new, cult series. The game was developed by a team operating under the wings of Interplay Entertainment. After its premiere, many of its members moved to Black Isle Studios, responsible for the creation of Fallout 2.
Plot
Fallout takes us to a world destroyed as a result of a tragic nuclear war fought in 2077 by United States and China. More precisely - we travel to the sandy, sun-burned wasteland into which the territory of the former USA was transformed. The lucky ones made it to the Vaults - gigantic shelters where they led relatively normal lives. Those who remained on the surface were forced to fight a hard battle for survival.
During the game we play as one of the inhabitants of Vault 13, who must leave its safe walls and go to the Californian wilderness to find a replacement for the broken chip responsible for filtering water. If the task is not completed within 150 days, we will condemn the entire population of our Vault.
Gameplay
We start a new in Fallout by choosing one of the three ready-made characters or by creating our own character. We have nothing left to do but to plunge into the whirl of post-apocalyptic adventures, which lead us through various locations. During the game we have the opportunity to visit such places as the Scrapyard, the trading city known as a Hub, or even the Necropolis settlement belonging to the ghouls (people resembling zombies who mutated as a result of exposure to deadly radiation).
Watching the action in an isometric view, we travel through the game world, meet its inhabitants, talk to them, and interact with the factions that govern it. Among the latter, the Brotherhood of Steel leads the way, whose members search the wastelands for remnants of ancient technological achievements. There are also Supermutants - powerful, almost immortal humanoids resistant to radiation.
The driving force of the game are quests pushing the plot forward, accompanied by various side missions. Pip-Boy 2000 - a portable computer, like a watch worn by the user - provides us with information about everything we need to know, as well as map locations and the status of our character.
Since the wastelands are full of dangers, we often have to reach for our weapons and fight. Battles take place in turn-based mode, and during them the key to success is not only skillful use of the character's strengths and juggling their abilities, but also making good use of the V.A.T.S. system, which allows for targeting specific parts of the opponents' bodies. Apart from firearms, we can also have melee weapons at our disposal. We are not doomed to travel alone, because over time we can be joined by various companions who provide indispensable support on the battlefield.
Our character is described by seven statistics known as S.P.E.C.I.A.L., which are: strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, and luck. Apart from that, their skills and characteristics determine how they will cope in various situations. As we progress, we develop our hero and acquire new equipment, which allows us to face increasingly greater challenges. During quests we often have to make decisions that affect their nature, and consequently - how other inhabitants of the wasteland will relate to them.
Mods
One of the most important mods for Fallout 1 is Fallout Fixt, which introduces a number of fixes and improvements, as well as new content. Steam players who want to use it should also get the modification Fallout Fixt with Steam Compatibility, which makes it work with the release on Valve's platform.
Another important mod for Fallout is Fallout Sonora. It takes us to the titular desert and allows us to play as a villager participating in the events that occurred after the story presented in the base version of the game. It includes, among other things, 22 locations not available in the original game, as well as new characters and quests.
