The Last Guardian. Missing in action – the most anticipated games lost in development hell

Table of Contents

Most of the games on our list are cross-platform or have a direct history with PC. This game is something completely different, and yet it manages to awe, create a feeling of longing, frustrate to no end, and give hope. The Last Guardian, announced by Team Ico over 5 years ago, was supposed to be a spiritual successor to their original and artistic games – Ico and Shadow of the Collosuss.

The Last Guardian, is a magical tale about a boy and his unusual huge feathered friend. From first sight, the game appeared to be something extraordinary, and was supposed to be one of the best generation-defining games headed straight to Playstation 3. However, the development process of the game is so convoluted and complex, that many a time people have wondered if it’s being made at all. Sony has assured us, and surely will do so again, that The Last Guardian is in fact being made and is currently being remodeled, as the development team has gotten smaller since the beginning (in such a time-consuming development process, other various projects have appeared) and the target system is now the PS4 - any other course of action would be odd.

The unofficial release date is summed up by the official ‘When it’s done’ status. Sony on the other hand, doesn’t want us to lose hope, as the last humble update was made merely a few weeks ago. Fear not Team Ico fans, we will get our flying Guardian soon enough. Hopefully, the game won’t be lost to time.
