Syberia 3. Missing in action – the most anticipated games lost in development hell

Table of Contents

The fans of the Syberia adventure games are patient people. The first installment was released in 2002, the sequel hit store shelves 2 years later and the third one… well, it didn’t come out yet. The third Syberia is nowhere to be found and doesn’t even have a release date. The game was first announced on April 1st 2009 (surely a rather inconvenient date), what was at first regarded as a developer’s joke. After a few days, Microids’ management has confirmed the news, and the planned release date was set for the upcoming year.

Five years have passed, Syberia 3 is still in development, and only few months ago, did the fans of Kate Walker get to see the first two screenshots from the early version of the game. In the beginning, the lack of funds turned out to be a serious issue, and despite the bold announcements, the game’s actual development hasn’t started as of 2011. Finally, the development has begun two years ago, and it seems Benoit Sokal and his team have clearly managed to get the amount needed, as the third installment of the franchise is set not only to appear on PCs, but also Playstation 4, Xbox One, and various devices with Apple’s logo.

And if that wasn’t enough, the two previous Syberia games are to be released in a HD edition on previous Sony and Microsoft consoles, as well as on devices that run on iOS and Android. 2015 will be quite a year for the franchise’s fans (if the developers’ plans aren’t hindered, by the brutal reality). The adventures of Miss Walker await their conclusion.
