What is Life is Strange: True Colors?
This is the third part of the series established in 2015, and although the storyline is only loosely related (we occasionally meet characters from earlier parts), the spirit of its predecessors, especially the brilliant original, is very tangible. Once again, we play as a girl living in a seemingly beautiful and idyllic world which hides dark secrets, and the protagonist, Alex, will have to solve these mysteries. It concerns the mysterious death of the protagonist's brother – so mysterious that she cannot leave it unsolved.
We are there to explore not only the physical world, but also, and perhaps most importantly, the world of feelings and emotions. Quite literally. Alex is gifted with supernatural abilities that allow her to perceive the emotional aura that surrounds human beings, classify those feelings, and influence them.
What makes it worth it?
First of all – True Colors is a big step forward for the series in terms of the setting. The game is pretty, often even delightful, especially during leisurely walks around Haven Springs. It's also worth noting the huge improvement in facial animaitons.
The graphics (and the audio!) do a tremendous job here, but it's the story that is the most amazing part of this adventure: learning the secrets of th people of Heaven Springs and absorbing tons of motional charge this game carries is quit the experience. Very quickly, the idyllic town turns into a battlefield where we fight trauma and confront internal monsters. The authenticity of the experiences in which we participate is enchanting and terrifying at the same time, making Life is Strange: True Colors a game to remember.
