20. Torchlight
Released in 2009 , Torchlight is like the illegitimate child of Diablo and underrated FATE. Diablo gave his kid a backbone - the mechanics of combat and equipment. Torchlight also inherited the extremely atmospheric music, which is the work of the brilliant composer, Matt Uelmen. In turn, FATE bestowed on his child a fairy-tale style and a pet, which plays an extremely important role in the game - it fights and develops with us, carries items, and can even jump to the city in a blink of an eye and sell junk for us.
It's worth feeding our pet with fish, which temporarily transforms him into something dangerous. But the similarities aren't surprising, considering that the people who have significantly contributed to the development of both earlier mentioned games are behind the discussed title. So Torchlight is, by all means, recommendable... although its fame fades a bit in comparison to the improved sequel... which we'll talk about later.
FATHERS OF THE DIABLO
Torchlight was created by a company formed by Max and Erich Shaefer, the founders of Condor, better known as Blizzard North. They left during the works on Diablo III, registered their own company, and got into... developing hack'n'slash games.
