Scholarship Of Skyrim is a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition, created by Zamio1

Description:

Become a real scholar! Write thesis' about one of three ancient cultures, collaborate with your peers, delve into ruins to research and increase your Scholarship level.

Scholarship Of Skyrim is a gameplay addition mod focusing on roleplaying that adds mechanics for the more academic type of character. You can pick a topic from one of the ancient cultures (Dwemer, Falmer and Ancient Nords) research them and write a thesis about them.

Leveling Mechanics

You can write better books through research! Research takes many forms, studying in the Arcaneum, collaborating with fellow scholars or exploring in a ruin relevant to what your topic. As you research your Writing Level increases, leading to a better book. However, a novice can't write a truly great book just because they researched a lot. As you produce more finished works, your Scholarship Level also increases. The higher your Writing Level and Scholarship Level, the better the final book. The Threshold values for these both are displayed here but feel free to ignore it if you want to figure it out yourself.

Walkthrough

  1. When you load the game, two powers will be put in your inventory, Book Menu and Work on your book.
  2. Use Book Menu and craft the incomplete thesis.
  3. Use the Work on your book power.
  4. Either choose to write or research.
  5. After you've written for a maximum of 48 hours, you will be given a final book representing your efforts!

Fellow Scholars

Your peers are scattered across Skyrim and beyond! All of them would be happy to help you out with your research. However, most will want you to do something for them first.

  1. Calcelmo - Complete "The Lost Expedition" or "The Book of Love"
  2. Urag - Complete "Hitting the Books"
  3. Neloth - Complete "Reluctant Steward"
  4. Paarthurnax - Available as soon as you meet him.
  5. Marcurio - Available from game start.
  6. Gelebor - Complete "Touching the Sky"
  7. Wuunferth the Unliving - Complete "Blood on the Ice" without falsely accusing him
  8. Sorine - Complete "Bolstering the Ranks"
  9. Tolfdir - Complete "Under Saarthal"
  10. Nirya - Complete "The Eye of Magnus"
  11. Farengar - Available from game start.

To collaborate with them, complete the assigned quest and they'll be happy to help you out.

Location matters!

Where you do your research is important. If you're in the Arcaneum you have a trove of books available to read all about your topic thanks to Urag. But field research is very valuable. You can also gain valuable research in an area relevant to your topic. This specifically means dungeons tagged with the right LocType/LocSet keywords. This is most if not all dungeons in the vanilla game and potentially some modded ones.

To research these areas, just select the Research Areas option from the Research menu when you're in them.

Finishing Bonus'

When you finish a book, depending on your topic and the tier book you write, you will get a small passive or power. These aren't extremely strong but who ever became a warrior by writing?

Dwemer

  1. Novice - 5% increase in damage to Dwemer
  2. Apprentice - 10% better prices
  3. Adept - 10% less damage from dwemer
  4. Expert - 10% better damage from dwemer weapons/ 10% higher armour rating when using dwemer armour
  5. Master - Once a day, summon a dwemer centurion for 2 minutes

Ancient Nords

  1. Novice 5% increase in damage to Draugr
  2. Apprentice - 10% frost resistance
  3. Adept - 10% less damage from draugr
  4. Expert - 20% more damage to dragon priests
  5. Master - 20% shout magnitude

Falmer

  1. Novice - 5% increase in damage to Falmer
  2. Apprentice - 20% poison resistance
  3. Adept - 10% less damage from falmer
  4. Expert - 10% less chance of detection
  5. Master - Once a day, spawn a Chaurus Hunter for 2 minutes

Compatibility

I don't touch vanilla records so this should be compatible with everything including College of Winterhold overhauls, mods that add new dungeons, etc as long as they use the same keywords vanilla does. If I'm wrong, feel free to let me know in the comments.

To install:

Extract to “Data” folder and activate in launcher.

Recommended mods

Shops sell paper - I don't provide a way of getting more paper in game so this will help a lot, I use it in my own game.

Writing Materials for Spell Research - Quill Fix - It was meant for Spell Research but you'll be using those materials for this mod anyways and as its not dependant on that mod you can use it here.
