Nations of Snakes is a mod for Men of War: Assault Squad 2, created by affenkonig11b.

Description (in author’s own words):

This expansive sandbox simulates a generic counter-insurgency operation in occupied Germany. (alternate history and all that) The battle is not for bridges or beaches, but for the favor, security, and control of the populace.

Currently includes five regular missions, and a tutorial mission, that does load in the menu of the game (editor not needed). Each map/mission presents new terrain, challenges, and special events.

THIS IS A SANDBOX. The enemy combatants, subversives, mines/IEDs, toop morale, special events, side-tasks, the weather, and much more is in the hands of RNG (influenced by various factors, mainly the H&M score). Some of the funnest games go on for 2-3 hours with no clear winner (just like most insurgencies).

LEARNING CURVE ALERT:

Learning counter-insurgency is like learning to eat soup with a knife. Expect to spend your first 5 or so games just learning and exploring. I would recommend sticking with the first regular mission until you are comfortable with the mechanics.

There are a LOT of mechanics to this game and many different ways to fight and win (and lose). Just like real counter-insurgency, it is quite complicated, very difficult, and the enemy gets a vote. Again, RNG ensures that no two playthroughs go the same way, you need to become flexible enough to deal with whatever the game throws at you.
