Far Cry - FarOut Widescreen v.1.1 (8072020) - Game mod - Download

FarOut Widescreen is a mod for Far Cry, created by FarOutCry.

Description (in author’s own words):

FarOut Widescreen is a patch meant to bring authentic [ultra] widescreen HUD support to FarCry. Aspect ratios ranging from 4:3 to 48:9 are supported, but some items will go much further.

• Project constraints are that no executable or dll files may be modified. This is for several reasons, such as not trusting the released source code to be complete, or the loss of transparency.

• FOV is scaled along with the aspect ratio and keeps vertical height about same. Eventually it reaches a hard limit, and is mainly vert- from then on. Fundamentally how the game works..

Why does this patch exist? Well I wanted to play farCry and it was a disgusting mess. What do? Play FarCry 5, which is a far cry from FarCry? Negative! So looked for widescreen patches and was unable to find one that seemed serious. Not willing to take no as an answer, I made my own. It's been both challenging and rewarding!

Hopefully this can breath some life into what seems to be a shrinking fan-base for FarCry. Maybe the trigens have eaten some?

Note: A fix has been included for the common issue of AI seeing [and shooting] through tents. While not a core part of FarOut Widescreen, this allows a reasonable experience without installing additional patches or modifying game files. This was certainly not intended behavior.

How to install

This is developed for and tested with the official 1.4 version of FarCry. Please remove other patches before testing this beta release..

• Start by opening your FarCry installation folder. Note it contains a folder named "FCData"

• Install by copying the .pak file to the FCData folder. That simple, just like Jack sneaking a look at Val bathing.

• If you decide to remove the patch, just delete the file. Gone real quick as tho a trigen had spotted it!

Advanced features

These are all done by editing HudCommon.lua

• Forcing HUD to stay on your center monitor. [or at any width you like] Find "autocenter=nil" near the top of the file. Change this to whatever width you'd like. For example, "autocenter=1920" will center the HUD at 1920PX no matter how wide the game window is. Pretty cool, yea? Just like cryvision!

• Manually adjusting the left and right HUD position. Just change the leftx, lefty, rightx, and righty variables. These use game units, not pixels! Hate where the HUD is positioned? You can move it wherever you like faster than a Humvee will drive over you when you're hidden in the bushes!

• Note: These features can conflict with each other. If autocenter is not set to nil, your leftx and rightx settings will be ignored.
