Almost every aspect of the game has been adjusted or improved, and both BigTinz and I are eager to discuss some of the most notable features included in this new modding project.

Graphics:

Far Cry 2, undoubtedly a game of its time, showcases the plains and jungles of Africa beautifully. However, the original game's presentation is marked by the classic brown tones of the late 2000s, with limited draw distance and noticeable LOD and shadow issues.

Realism+ Redux addresses this by enhancing the game's saturation to bring out vibrant colors, simply by removing the desaturation values. Additionally, the game's graphics have been pushed to their limits, with improved draw distance, LOD values, and shadows. New textures, including AI-enhanced versions and newly created ones, have been incorporated.

The game's user interface (UI) has also received a makeover, featuring AI-enhanced textures and newly created artwork for weapon and map icons. A comparison below highlights some of these changes.

Gameplay

One of our most exciting new features is a fix for the vexing outposts, notorious for respawning as soon as the player leaves the immediate area. The talented Scubrah has crafted a new script where, once all enemies in an outpost are eliminated, they will only respawn after half an hour of real-time has passed. This resolves a long-standing issue with Far Cry 2, and we are grateful to Scubrah for allowing us to adapt his mod for Realism+ Redux. This feature is demonstrated in the accompanying video.

The next significant change is a revamp of weapons and combat. In the original game, enemies were somewhat bullet-spongy, especially against pistols and shotguns.

Realism+ Redux increases both player and enemy damage, making combat deadlier and more impactful. This change is balanced around two new difficulty levels: 'Hardcore Redux' and 'Infamous Redux'. Both feature increased maximum ammo for weapons, with 'Hardcore Infamous' matching the combat difficulty of the original Infamous setting, while 'Infamous Redux' offers a more challenging experience for seasoned players. Furthermore, each class of weapons has been rebalanced to ensure their equal viability.

There are numerous other gameplay changes as well, too many to list comprehensively here. These include removing the player arrow from the map for a more immersive exploration experience, infighting between enemy factions, expanded arsenals for enemies and allies, a reorganized shop, new upgrades for DLC weapons and vehicles, faster vehicles, new vehicles for enemy patrols, improved hang gliders, enhanced stealth mechanics, smoother player movement, control adjustments, and much more. Playable Characters

We take particular pride in the new playable character options. We've introduced female mercenaries to the playable roster and added the option to play as an 'Anonymous Mercenary', where a player model is randomly generated using the same system that generates enemy fighters. Having a more diverse selection of playable characters enhances the gaming experience, and you can see some of the results of being an 'Anonymous Mercenary' below.

Bug Fixes

If you've played Far Cry 2 before, you may be familiar with issues like oddly bouncing NPCs, getting soft-locked due to being unable to rescue buddies, silent phone calls, and various other anomalies.

We've made extensive efforts to address as many of these issues as possible. While the game might not be completely free of bugs (particularly in DX10 mode), we are confident in delivering a stable Far Cry 2 experience.
