version: v.2.01

VERSION REQUIREMENT

This v2.01 Patch of CM Battle for Normandy requires you to have a working copy of CM Battle for Normandy V2.00 installed, and all mods removed. It works for both base-game only installs as well as those that have the Commonwealth module (you can choose which components to update during installation). Other non-Battlefront game versions may not be compatible with this Upgrade.

INSTALLATION LOCATION

The v2.01 Patch MUST be installed into the same directory where the full version of the game resides. The Upgrade installer will attempt to select the correct default for you, and warn you if it thinks it's not where it should be, but if you moved the game files manually, or on certain setups, this automatic selection may not be 100% fail safe. Please doublecheck the installation location BEFORE installing the Upgrade and make sure that you are installing into the correct directory. Installing into the wrong directory will lead to crashes and require a complete reinstall.

PREVIOUS SAVE GAME COMPATIBILITY NOTE:

Save games from previous versions ARE COMPATIBLE with v2.01, provided that you save your turn-based games in the COMMAND phase (not the replay phase) before upgrading to v2.01.

COMPATIBILITY WITH MODS:

Due to the potential of conflicts with pre v2.01 game Mods, we STRONGLY advise uninstalling any mods prior to installing this Game patch.

ANTI-VIRUS/SECURITY SOFTWARE WARNINGS

Certain anti-virus and other security software installed on your computer may prevent the Upgrade from installing properly, or from running after installation. This usually happens if your AV software settings allow it to use "heuristic" scanning, which basically means guessing rather than scanning for known virus signatures. Since our games are encrypted to prevent hacking, AV software is not able to decode them, and this may result in what is known as a "false positive". As long as during installation you see that Battlefront.com, Inc. is the originator of the file, you can safely ignore such warnings and whitelist the file. If the file was put into quarantine by your AB software, you can safely move it back. For more information about false positives, whitelisting and heuristic scanning, please consult the support manual of your chosen anti virus solution.

LICENSE ACTIVATION

After installing the Upgrade correctly, you will be required to activate the game again. Use only the license key provided with your Upgrade purchase. If you own the Commonwealth module, then it will be activated along with the base game. You will not need any of the other license keys ever again. Should you need to reinstall the game, please execute the following steps in the listed order (if a step doesn't apply to you, e.g. because you do not own a module, simply skip it):

0) Make sure any previous copies are UNINSTALLED, using the supplied uninstaller link.

1) Install v1.00 CMBN off disc or download (setup file).

2) Install Commonwealth Module (this updates your game to v1.10)

3) Install the latest patch! v1.11 as of this writing.

4) Install the v2.00 Upgrade

5) Install the latest patch (v2.01 as of this writing)

USER PRIVILEGES

The game does not require any "elevated privileges" (e.g. "Run as admin") under Windows, nor any compatibility settings. Note that if you install and launch the game with elevated or changed permissions anyway, you will be required to ALWAYS run the game with these changed permissions from then on. For more information about "user privileges", please see the Microsoft Windows manual for UAC (User Account Control).

"VIRTUAL MACHINES", PROCESS MONITORS AND DEBUGGERS

The game does not run in a Virtual Machine environment, or even if you have partial virtualization enabled (e.g. Virtual Keyboard) . It will also refuse to run if you have various intrusive process monitors or debuggers running at the same time.

MULTIPLE WINDOWS USERS

Please note that the game will usually only run for the Windows User Account that installed and launched it for the first time. If you would like to run the game on multiple accounts, changes to your Windows Account Control will be necessary.

New 2.01 Feature List:

* Fixed a bug that occasionally caused weapons crews to move back to an old position when deploying their weapon.

* Corrected issues with deploying MGs in buildings.

* Soldiers fire weapons faster at short ranges, especially Garand rifles.

* Small arms fire causes more suppression than before.

* General improvements to MG performance behavior. See note below this list for more information.

* Sandbags, wire, foxholes, hedgehogs, and trenches are correctly treated as "lower down" for spotting purposes.

* Pistol accuracy slightly reduced.

* BAR range increased to 800m.

* Shaders optimized for nVidia and ATI.

* Moving a mortar even a short distance causes greater loss of target acquisition.

* Bunker-mounted MGs are more accurate than before.

* SS leaders have correct poncho camouflage pattern.

* Corrected an accuracy problem with on-map indirect fire.

* Crews bailed out of destroyed vehicles have more jittery morale.

* Corrected a vehicle navigation problem on bridges.

* Target line for area fire is slightly thicker to differentiate it.

* Shooting at bunkers from very short range works better.

* Daimler SOD given a mounted Bren LMG.

* Fixed a bug causing immobilized MG teams after dismounting from MG bunkers.

* Purple "pop smoke" target line goes away when it should.

* Better small-arms aiming at unarmored vehicles.

* Minor TO&E fixes.

* Fixed a bug that caused some Macs to crash while loading scenarios.

Special Note: MGs now have more effective aiming, rates of fire, and suppression effects. These highly requested changes make combat even more realistic and more challenging tactically. Some players will find their existing tactics may need some adjustments, others may find no significant need for change. We recommend practicing attacks on MG positions before continuing an in progress Campaign or game against another player.

v2.00 GAME FEATURES

Game User Interface Improvements:

-Waypoint dragging.A waypoint can be clicked on and moved by dragging it to a new location.

-Hotkey Unit Groups.Select units and assign them to number keys for quick navigation during gameplay. To change the camera's location press Alt and the number of the group you want tonavigate to. The camera relocates and the highest level unit of that group is automatically selected. In Iron Mode, only HQs can be assigned to hotkey unit groups.

-Grouped Spacebar Command system.Instead of getting all of the commands in a big list when the Spacebar is used, instead you get four groups of commands: Movement, Combat, Special, andAdministrative. Selecting one of these presents the Commands specific to that Commands Group. The existing graphical Commands Panel now mimics this same behavior. This new feature not onlymakes it easier to find the Command you're looking for, and keep straight which ones are can be co-assigned to a Waypoint, but it also allows for more than 9 Commands per Command Group (a v1.0limitation).

General User Interface improvements:

-New Load New Game dialog screen. The list of scenarios can now be sorted by size, length, or alphabetically. Details are presented in text form instead of icons.

-New Saved Game dialog screen. The list of scenarios can now be sorted by newest file, oldest file, or alphabetically. You can also filter between single player saves and PBEM saves. Savegames can be deleted from this screen instead of having to flip back and forth between the game and your desktop.

-Visual Hotkey binding.A new dialog allows you to specify and view key assignments. Players can still manually edit and exchange Hotkey.txt files as before.

-Special Equipment icons enlargedfor better readability. The enlargement reduces the number of icons from 12 to 6. Multiple items of a single type of equipment are now represented by a singleicon with a number specifying how many of that item the unit has.

Editor Improvements:

-Auto-Assemble linear terrain tool.Roads, walls, fences, and hedges can now be automagically drawn across the map instead of placing them one tile at a time. The old manual selection interfacestill exists to allow tweaking specific Action Spots.

-BMP map overlay.Instead of having to create game maps by freehand you can now trace over a real world map within the Editor. Four different levels of transparency make the process easier byadjusting for different needs as work progresses.

-More AI Groups. The number of AI Groups available has been increased from 8 to 16. This allows for greater fidelity of AI Plans and their assigned units.

-Copy and paste AI Plans.Create a solid AI Plan, copy it, and paste it into an unused AI Plan slot. Once done the copied Plan can be modified to make a unique variant without having to build thePlan up from scratch.

-Improved terrain elevation/contours,smoother and more intuitive.

- Ability to assign special uniform types for select units types on a unit by unit basis.

Gameplay improvements:

-Target Armor Arc Command.Instructs units to engage only armored units within the specified arc. As with nearly every Command, outcome varies greatly depending on unit quality and battlefieldconditions.

-Target Briefly Command.Tells a unit to fire all it's guns on a designated spot for 15 seconds, then cease fire. Conserves ammo and reduces the need for player management when shortsuppressive fire is the desired outcome.

-Expanded floating icon categories.New unique icons have been added for Ammo Bearer, Recon, Engineer, Air Controller, LMG, Light Truck (Antitank), Light Truck (Heavy Weapon), Light Tank,Tankette, Infantry Gun, Shelter Bunker, AT mines.

-FoW floating icons.FoW floating icons. Instead of getting a general area "?" icon and then immediately progressing to an accurate 3D representation, now there is an inbetween stage where youget a icon that represents the general category of enemy unit and no 3D representation. This tells the player "you know roughly what the unit is, but nothing more specific than that."

-Canister rounds.New game code properly simulates these special anti-infantry munitions. Although not very commonly seen, they are extremely effective when used properly.

Multiplayer Improvements:

-Pausable RealTime option.A player can request a Pause and, if the other player agrees, the game is Paused until both players request an end to it. Pauses can be "Playable" (Commands can beissued/modified), "Viewable" (navigation is allowed, but no Commands issued/modified), or "Locked" (no navigation, no Commands issued/modified). The different pause types reflect the differentreasons for requesting a pause.

Graphics improvements:

-Improved rendering.Normal and Bump mapping allows for more texture detail while using less system resources and improving the pressure on framerates.

-Expanded Soldier details.A completely new way of assigning models and textures allows greater flexibility and variety of how Soldiers look in the game. It also allows for more flexible Moddingpossibilities.
