GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition With Strange Next-gen Upgrade Policy

The boxed version of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is finally available in stores. Despite this, controversy continues to follow Rockstar, because while the game purchased on XOne can be upgraded to a dedicated XSX|S version, the PS4 edition doesn't have such option for the PS5.

Echoes of the controversial launch of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition have not been quiet even after a number of fixes and the release of the long-awaited boxed edition of the bundle. In fact, the latter has even contributed to another explosion of discontent among Rockstar fans - this time mainly those who own a PlayStation 4. It turns out that game copies purchased for PS4 run on PS5, but only as part of backward compatibility and not in an edition dedicated to Sony's latest console.

Internet users - including Twitter user Ben Turpin (@videotech_) - see a big problem in the fact that the competition does not have a similar problem. Thanks to the Smart Delivery program, the Xbox One version of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition can be successfully installed and run on Xbox Series X and S - as if it was an edition intended for them.

The outrage of PlayStation owners is not surprising, of course, but it seems a bit excessive. The 9th-generation console editions of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition don't offer - at least so far - any significant improvements; the difference in performance simply depends on the hardware on which they run. Moreover, it cannot be ruled out that if Grove Street Games, the studio responsible for the remakes, will implement some improvements to the next-gen versions of the game, those who own it on PS4 will also get the desired "upgrade".
