Town of Salem 2 is a sequel to the social deduction game from 2013, created as a strategy party game. It was developed by BlankMediaGames, the same studio as the original.
Plot
Town of Salem 2 is once again set in the titular town. Turmoil has erupted in Salem after the Coven took it over. We play as a resident of the town belonging to one of three factions fighting for influence, our task being to survive and lead our side to victory.
Mechanics
Town of Salem 2 makes use of the top-down perspective. The Town, Coven, Neutral and Apocalypse factions all have different goals they must achieve to emerge victorious. During the night players traverse the town and complete their objectives, such as eliminating opposing team members. During the day, meanwhile, they debate the state of the town and accuse each other. Though officially they're all motivated by cleansing Salem of all suspicious presence, many of them are liars concerned only about their own goals.
In addition to a faction, each player is assigned a particular role, affecting their abilities and thus their playstyle. Some roles return from the first game but there are also some entirely new ones; depending on our role we can burn corpses, block other players' abilities, go on rampages, masquerade as an innocent or even eliminate other players during the day.
The game also lets us adapt some of its elements to our preferences. If a certain role's not to our liking (or the opposite) we can use special scrolls to reduce or increase the chance of receiving said role at the start of the game. We can also freely modify our character's appearance, decorate our home, and even get a pet.
Game modes
Town of Salem 2 supports only multiplayer for up to 15 people at a time. The players can communicate via text chat, now with some useful new features such as key words or tagging other people.
Technical aspects
Town of Salem 2 is no longer a browser-based game, therefore its graphics look noticeably better than its predecessor's. Still, the game retains its familiar, appealing, colorful, cartoonish artstyle.
