Forgotten City is a first-person adventure game released on PC. It is the first commercial project of Modern Storyteller and is a development of ideas from the popular mod of the same title to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Plot
The action takes place in a lost underground metropolis, built during the glory of the Roman Empire. We play as a traveler who, after reaching this place, discovers bodies of twenty-six researchers, turned into golden statues. Their death was caused by the violation of some mysterious, supernatural law governing this place, according to which the sin of one person brings annihilation to the whole community.
We get a chance to save the dead. There is a portal in the city that allows you to travel into the past. We must use it to discover the events that led to the tragedy and then use this knowledge to prevent them.
Mechanics
Forgotten City, released on PC, is a first-person adventure game. The gameplay is based on exploring the location, talking to characters and solving numerous logical puzzles. The game is diversified by small platform challenges and simple combat sequences.
Forgotten City is largely non-linear. It is practically impossible to achieve success during our first try. Like in a film called Groundhog Day, the player repeatedly moves back in time to the same point and tries to bring about a change of events. We have to experiment and make difficult decisions, discovering different ways of influencing events until we finally find a solution that will save the researchers.
Forgotten City does not provide one good method for success. There are many ways to save people, and our actions ultimately lead the plot to one of several alternative endings.
Other information
Forgotten City is based on an original mod, but many things have changed. The authors abandoned the fantasy land of The Elder Scrolls and set the game in a Roman city. The engine has been changed to Unreal technology. Thanks to this, the whole graphics design is completely new and does not use any elements from the mod.
A lot of changes have also taken place in the plot, characters, and challenges. Most of these elements have been modified and the whole campaign has been greatly expanded. The developers have also added combat and wall-climbing mechanics.
